Tips for Your Boudoir

Questions about your boudoir session? Let's see if we can answer them!

1. What should I bring? Bring extra! More is better. We will talk about everything to bring during your consultation- dresses, lingerie, shoes and more. When in doubt it is always better to bring and not need something than to not bring it and wish you did. At your session, we will look at what you brought and plan out the entire boudoir shoot. You've invested a lot of time and money, so the last thing you want is a tear or malfunction in an outfit. Back-ups can be life-savers.

2. Try on everything before the session. If you haven't worn something for a while, try it on before the shoot and see how it looks. Our bodies change over time so things may look differently than they used to. And if something doesn't look just right, you have a great excuse to go shopping!

3. Wear comfortable clothes on your way to the shoot. Be comfortable! Skip the bra, the watch and the tight jeans. These can all leave impressions on the skin that are huge distractions in boudoir photography. Besides, you want to feel comfortable and confident.

4. Save the champagne for later. Boudoir is a celebration of you, but alcohol can dehydrate you, make your eyes red and do somethings that may show up in pictures. Instead, drink plenty of water a few days before your boudoir session. Also, get plenty of good sleep before. You will look and feel refreshed, and the camera loves that!

5. What about a fake tan? If you want the golden tan look, I would suggest a professional salon with tanning beds. And go au natural! Tan lines are a huge distraction and are costly to photoshop. Save the $.

6. Great time for mani-pedi and a wax. Treat yourself! It not only looks great but you will feel amazing.

7.Have fun! Think of your boudoir session as a whole new experience. Feel the anticipation, enjoy the planning and shopping and the mani-pedi or anything you do to prepare. When you arrive for your boudoir session, know that you will be guided through the day and totally taken care of. So relax and enjoy!

I wish to thank one of my mentors, Marissa Boucher, for contributing to this post. Marissa has been a great teacher and inspiration to my boudoir success. Thank you, Marissa!
