I know you are asking why a photographer names a blog FOCUS, and then puts an image of a body builder. It actually all ties together. As you know, focus in photography can be pretty important. My first photography teacher said to make sure the image is well exposed and in focus. The focus point is very important. With certain lenses, the focus range can be very shallow. You have to be careful if you want the eyes to be sharp and blur everything else. If the nose gets all the attention the image loses what story you are telling. The photographer needs to be focused on what he or she wants to show to accomplish telling the story.
The same can be told about everyday living. If we focus on the wrong things, our lives become distorted. Last week I had kind of a stressful situation. I learned that being a governor in a condo complex is not all glamour. I was letting this situation affect my whole day. When I went to the gym in the afternoon, my workout was dragging. My mind was not on the lifts, but on my mistake as a governor. As I sat on the bench in front of the mirror, I realized that the one thing I did was not what defined me. I had to put that in God's hands and do the best that I can do in being the best me. I let those feelings go and began to focus on the lifts.
To my surprise, my energy level rose to new levels. I was suddenly lifting more than I had before. I wasn't worried about what was wrong, but what was right and what I wanted to work on. It was like a weight was lifted from me! ( Ironic, isn't it? ) At that moment I realized that the things we are worried about may not seem to be that bad at all. We should not stop living because of our fears, maybe we should even embrace them. If we realize we have them, we can face them and become stronger and more content.
This brings us back to the body builder. As you can see, Barbara has been training for a long time. But she had to have the confidence to begin. Over time she could see definite results. She was absolutely focused on what she needed to do. Grant Cardone says in his book "The 10X Rule" that success is something created, not acquired. You can't buy it, you have to act on it. Every woman that I have photographed says that doing a boudoir session made them feel very nervous, but has given them confidence they weren't sure they had. Boudoir might just give you that confidence boost in other areas of your life. As for me, when I found my focus in the gym, it rose me to levels I was elated with. I then had the confidence that I could accomplish other things if I focus on what I want without worrying about all that I am not happy about. It was just like the lens- focus on the eyes, not the nose! You can imagine what an uplifting experience this was!
