5 Tips to Prep for Boudoir

You've booked your session. Now do you just show up and hope for the best? Or are there ways to prepare your mind and your body? Here are 5 easy tips to rock out your photo shoot.

1. Hydrate- This is #1 because it is key. Hydration helps your skin be softer and smoother. It helps give your skin a glow that dry skin doesn't do. Ways to hydrate:

       - Drink 8 glasses of water a day. Adding electrolytes like LMNT or Ultima boosts hydration, especially here in Florida.

       - Skin care products. Apply moisturizer especially after cleansing and showering.

       - Sun screen- make sure you use sunscreen at the beach and the pool. Floridians love the sun more than the sun loves us!

       - Hydrating foods- Foods like cucumbers, berries and avocado are great for adding hydration.

2. Stretch- Boudoir posing can be a bit more active than you might expect. You will be asked to move your body in ways that are not normal everyday. You may hear the photographer say " Arch your back, stand on your tippy toes or twist just from your waist." It will help you to try some stretching exercises similar to yoga. Some easier stretches include the bridge, cat cow and child's pose. These are not super difficult and will help your posing feel so much easier.

3. Mind set- A great advantage of a boudoir photography session is that you may build confidence and love your body again. You may see yourself totally different than you have before. To mentally prepare try looking in the mirror and use affirmations like "I am beautiful. I am at peace. I have great expressions!" Trying different expressions will help build confidence before you arrive at your photo session.

4. Eat- Your session may be for a mini or a few hours. You want to be comfortable and not thinking about how hungry you are! Try eating a light meal before heading over to the photo studio.  Your photographer may also provide snacks such as protein bars or fruit for that energy boost.

5. Sleep- Make sure you get plenty of rest a few days before, if that's possible. We all have pretty busy lives but being well rested will help your skin and eyes look refreshed. Getting enough sleep improves your mood and reduces stress. It also increases your concentration and performance. So try and get some sleep!
